During this residency, continues her inquiries about art pedagogy and its methodologies to address questions of caste and gender within formal school education. While the project aims to bring together various experiences and narratives via the form of storytelling, during her stay at Alserkal, Smita wishes to extend these explorations of her research around socially conscious curriculum through her conversations with teachers, art educators, artists, and critics from Dubai. These conversations will spill over into the pedagogical structures as a way to expand her art archive with participation from migrants from South Asia which will help her understand the complex structures of caste and gender within the Indian diaspora.
Dare to Cross the Line” workshop-performance. This immersive experience allowed participants to delve deep into social hierarchies and power dynamics through interactive games and roles. Inspired by Vijay Tendulkar’s concept of violence, the workshop acted as a ‘Truth Drug,’ revealing our true selves within the system.
The first session engaged young adults, while the second welcomed participants of all ages, sparking meaningful reflections and conversations on oppression and privilege.
