The machine of money

‘Laxmi’, a popular Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity was painted by Raja Ravi Varma in 1896. I chose this religious as well as cultural icon as the basis for my interpretation to convey its relevance in the current times. Here she has a gun in one hand, she has removed a boxing glove from one of her hands while holding the glove in the other hand. She is holding the boxing glove in one hand, and money comes pouring out of the other. She is wearing clothes that could be termed as western but in reality are worn across the urban world today. These two images are an expression of my angst in some of the elements of our society as well as my unstable economic condition.
